This week we are going to be focusing on the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. Below are some activities that you can do with your child based on the story. Don't forget to show us some photographs on our Facebook page. We would love to see them.

Can you remember what the caterpillar ate? Can you write a list of the food by trying hard to hear the first sound in each word.

Can you make a caterpillar the correct length using your finger to paint each segment?

How many butterflies can you see in your garden? Talk about the life cycle of a butterfly and how they change. You can use the following template to make the life cycle or make one yourself. The more creative the better!

Phonics - This week we will be focusing on the sound 'u'. Introduce this sound to your child by saying the sound it makes and how to write it. Can your child find items around the house that begin with this sound? You can use the following booklet to help reinforce the sound 'u'.

Literacy

The caterpillar ate lots of different food. Can you make a simple food diary showing what you have eaten. You can use the template below or make your own booklet. 

Matching the initial sound to food

Can you hear the initial sound in each of the foods and draw lines to match the food to the correct letter?

Maths

In the story the caterpillar eats different food on different days. Do you know how many days there are in a week? Can you name them? Learn some days of the week songs and see if you can cut and stick the days of the week in the correct order.
