ACTIVITY 1

This week we are going to look at the <wh> spelling of the /w/ sound.

Look at the pictures attached. Using these pictures, write the words to go with them using the <wh> spelling. Once you have done this, choose at least three to write a sentence with. Can you think of any more words with a <wh> spelling?

Extra activity - spot all the <wh> words in the postcard. Can you write them in a list?

ACTIVITY 2

There are lots of different ways of writing the /ai/ sound, which include <ai>, <a_e> and <ay>.
We are going to look at the <ay> spelling of the /ai/ sound. The <ay> spelling is often used at the end of words. The <y> takes the place of <i> (e.g. shy) as <i> doesn't like being at the end of words.
Sound out the <ay> words on the powerpoint attached.

Choosing at least three of the following words, can you put them into sentences?
hay, tray ,way, play, clay, Sunday, hooray

Once you have done this, play a game of bingo! Write lots of different 'ay' words on small pieces of paper, fold them up and put them in a pot. Draw yourself a bingo board with either 4 or 6 sections. Choose what 'ay' word you are going to put in each one. Then, pull one word out of the pot at a time, read it and see if it's one you chose! You could play this on your own and time to see how long it takes to get all your words pulled out of the pot, or you could play it against someone else in your house!
