Porthcawl Primary School Improvement Plan 2010-2011

Child Protection policy of Porthcawl Primary School

During the Summer holidays we have begun to develop our Moodle.

A moodle is another resource where you can obtain more information

on the school and your child's class and work.

School Times

School times have specifically been arranged to provide the optimum

learning experience for children and the convenience of parents. Proven

scientific research shows that primary age children learn best the earlier

they start school. Parents of nursery children are requested not to collect

them before 3:10 as this shortens the wealth of educational experiences

that they receive.

Foundation Phase (Nursery)             -   8.45 to 3.10

Foundation Phase and Key Stage 2   -   8.45 to 3.15

Basic Skills

Porthcawl Primary School holds  2 Basic Skills Quality Marks for showing

how the school improves the skills of numeracy and literacy.  This award is

due to be re-assessed in the Autumn term of 2010.

BECTA

Porthcawl Primary School also holds the BECTA ICT mark which is a quality

mark of the very good standard of ICT teaching within the school.

Breakfast Club

We run a FREE breakfast club every morning from 8.10 until the

start of school. The children have a choice of food and drinks and are

able to play and chat together before lessons begin. Enrolment is

simple - just contact the school office.

School meals

School meals are cooked and served on the premises.  At present meals

cost £1.90 a day ~ £9.50 a week.  Increases occur from time to time but

parents are informed in advanced.

Payments for meals should be made in advance on Monday of each week.

Cheques should be made payable to Bridgend County Borough Council.

The money should be put in an envelope, clearly marked with the child's

name, class and the amount of money enclosed.

School Clubs

The school runs an exciting range of extra curricular clubs.

Please support your child in following our ’club rules’ so that we

can ensure the safety of all our children.

Please note that clubs are only cancelled if there is in excess of 24 hours

notice for parents.  Every Monday morning the school phone messages are

updated to indicate which clubs are running that week.  In addition, the

weekly newsletter notifies parents of club availability for the following week.

PTA at Porthcawl Primary School

We are very lucky at this school to have a thriving, hard working and

innovative PTA.  They are responsible for numerous fund raising events,

termly school  disco's, the running of the popular school fruit shop and a

committed driving force behind the school library.  If you would like to help

out at any events, give ideas or suggestions then come along to their

monthly meetings usually held on the first Wedesday of each month.

Please check the 'What's on' page or the PTA page for date and venue.

For any information contact the school or one of the PTA members.

Go to the 'What's on' section for up and coming events and weekly

newsletter.
